Additional Information

Staff do receive disability awareness training.

Some Deaf Awareness training is covered in the Equality and Diversity training which staff receive.

Documentation can be provided in different formats on request.

The different formats available include large print on request, different languages (via interpreters) and audio-cassette.

Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals can provide interpreters on request.

Interpreters can be requested by contacting the Appointments Manager for that department or the Patient Advice and Liason Service (PALS) who will be able to provide a list of interpreters in the area.

PALS can provide advice and support for requesting documents or interpreters. They can be contacted by calling 01253 655589, by fax: 01253 655590, by email: pals@bfwhospitals.nhs.uk or by visiting their office in the main corridor of Area 1.

Registered assistance dogs are welcomed in the hospital but this does not extend to the ward areas.

Switchboard staff are Type Talk aware.

Help with luggage is available for inpatients.

Volunteers are located by most major entrances and can provide help and assistance.

There is an information help desk located on the main corridor just inside Woodlands Entrance.

Mobility aids available in the hospital include mobile hoists, hoist slings, wheelchairs, tri wheel walkers, shower chairs, bath hoists, commodes, walking sticks, walking frames, adjustable beds and crutches.

There is no charge for mobility aids.

To obtain mobility aids please contact a nurse/doctor.

Portable hearing loops are available in some departments of the hospital.

To find out if a portable hearing loop can be provided please contact the department.

Children are welcome in all departments of the hospital but, in some departments, must be accompanied by an adult.
