Barnsley Hospital is among the leading NHS trusts in the country.
The 500 bed hospital was built in the 1970s and serves a population of over a quarter of a million people in the Barnsley area.
Today, it continues to provide a full range of district hospital services to the local community and surrounding area. These included emergency department services, outpatient clinics, inpatient services, and maternity and children’s services. We also provide a number of specialised services, including cancer and surgical services, in conjunction with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
Last year, it cared for almost 58,000 patients in the hospital, saw 264,000 in clinic appointments and treated 75,000 in the emergency department. It also carried out 481,000 tests – such as investigating blood samples, x-rays, scans and other tests which help hospital doctors and GPs diagnose patients’ conditions.
It is renowned for its top performance, friendly culture, and convenient location.
The outpatient department is situated next to the main entrance and can be accessed by escalator or lift.
