Birmingham Children's Hospital has teamed up with DisabledGo to produce a comprehensive site plan of the Hospital for disabled people showing the level of access they can expect. The Hospital welcomes the chance to work with DisabledGo, both to empower disabled people and to indicate how it can improve its services in future.
The plan is being produced under the remit of the Disability and Discrimination Act (DDA) and constitutes a comprehensive survey. The idea is to show what disabled people can expect when they visit the Hospital, and to indicate the best routes available to their destinations throughout the site.
This includes route planning, car parking facilities, and toilet facilities. This will empower disabled people and those accompanying them, and enable them to come up with their own solutions when visiting the Hospital. By publicising this information disabled people can find out the information they require without needing to phone or ask a member of staff, and use it with confidence, knowing it has been collected in person and in detail. DisabledGo is inspecting the Hospital site with the full cooperation of managers and staff, and the Hospital is looking forward to accepting and developing the plan.
