Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and soft toy.
  • You can borrow these from the Visitor Reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: trampers. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • There is a small charge for use of the trampers, unless you are a paid up member of Countryside.

Route to (The Old Kitchen Tea Room)

  • From the visitor reception, turn right and follow the path for a short way before turning right.
    The Old Kitchen Tea Room will be on your left behind a large tree.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 108cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a cafĂ© which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Wall menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours), but handheld menus are not.
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups and a portable card machine for payment.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.

Toilet with Adaptations (Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located outside of the Old Kitchen Tea Room, to the right of the Old Kitchen Tea Room entrance.
  • Access into the toilet is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • This toilet is approximately 32m from the Old Kitchen Tea Room entrance.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 85cm.
  • The door has a sliding bolt lock.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 247cm x 232cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 165cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.

  • There is an ambulant cubicle available with a horizontal grab rail on the left, a vertical grab rail on the left, a vertical grab rail on the right and a dropdown rail on the right.
  • The wash basin tap type is sensor.
  • Lighting levels are bright.
  • There are hand dryers.
  • The ambulant toilet is in the female standard toilets only.

Changing Places

  • Location and Access View
    • The facility is additional to standard and accessible toilets, and is not located close to other managed facilities.
    • There is not a sign at the entrance to the Changing Places facility indicating the location of the nearest toilets and baby changing facilities.
    • Access into the facility is via a slight ramp/slope.
    • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
    • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • A RADAR key is required for access to this facility.
    • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the door opening is 115cm.
    • The door has a locking handle.
    • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
    • The door has a horizontal grab rail.
    • The dimensions of the facility are 389cm x 408cm.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View
    • There are lateral transfer spaces on both sides of the seat.
    • The transfer space on the right as you face the toilet is 108cm.
    • The transfer space on the left as you face the toilet is 185cm.

    • The changing places hoist is powered overhead and covers all areas in the cubicle.

    • The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
    • The towel dispenser is 92cm from the floor.
    • The hand dryer is 91cm from the floor.

    • There is a shelf located where it is not reachable for seated and standing users.
